Reflection 14: Never Walk in Darkness

LetLightShine-green-web

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” – John 8:12

How comforting it is to know that we will never again walk in darkness, thanks to the love of our God and the death and resurrection of His Son. What are some ways in which you feel comforted by knowing you will never walk in darkness?

Prayer: Dear Jesus, how we love you, and how we appreciate that you are the light of the world. Shine down on us today and every day, so that we can shine on others.

Reflection 13: All Things Work Together

LetLightShine-green-web

We know all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose. – Romans 8:28.

Have you ever experienced something related to what this bible verse says? Did something bad happen to you, but God turned it around somehow, using the bad situation to bring about something good? Why is that, do you think?

Prayer: Holy God, many things happen we cannot understand. We trust that you love us no matter what, and that you will “write straight with crooked lines.”

Reflection 12: Knowledge of God’s Glory Within Us

LetLightShine-green-web

For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.
– 2 Corinthians 4:6

We each have the light of knowledge of God’s glory within us – a wonderful gift from a wonderful God! How can you use that knowledge today to give back to the world?

Prayer: Glorious God, you are an amazing God, and we are so very grateful for all you have done for us. help us use the knowledge of your goodness and glory for the goodness and glory of your world.

Reflection 11: Into His Light

LetLightShine-green-web

He called you out of darkness, into His wonderful light. – 1 Peter 2:9

There is no reason to live in darkness. God has called each of us into His wonderful light, to live and love in Him who first loved us. When times are dark, can you remember that God’s light never grows dim?

Prayer: Dear God, thank you for flooding us with your love light all the time, everywhere, no matter what.

Reflection 10: Caring for our Neighbors

LetLightShine-green-web

I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me…The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ – Matthew 25:36, 40

By following Jesus’ example of caring for our neighbor, we become the hands and feet of Christ. Have you been the caretaker? Have you been the recipient? How did each one feel?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for teaching us to care for each other, just as you care so deeply for us. Amen!

Reflection 9: Hospitality

LetLightShine-green-web

Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it. – Hebrews 13:2.

What are my attitudes towards “strangers”? How do I express the love of Christ to all I meet (rich/poor, citizen/foreigner, Christian/non-Christian, straight/gay, etc.)?

Prayer: Jesus, in your human nature, did you ever feel uncomfortable around certain people? or were you just so overflowing with the Spirit that you loved all from the moment you entered human flesh? Whatever the case, help me to love others even more!

Reflection 8: Darkness Can’t Drive Out the Light

LetLightShine-green-web

… the night will sine like the day, for darkness is as light to you. – Psalm 139:12

Even a tiny light breaks up the darkness, but darkness can never, ever dim God’s light, or the Christ-light in you! Remember today that every person you meet has the Christ-light, too.

Prayer: God, thank you for putting your light in me; what an amazing gift!

Reflection 7: Response to Grace

LetLightShine-green-web

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. – Ephesians 2:10

Good works are our way of saying “thank you” to God for the gift of grace. Challenge yourself to say “thank you” in a new way today.

Prayer: God, reveal to us new ways to respond to your grace. Amen!

-Laura Ring

Reflection 6: All Things New

LetLightShine-green-webAnd the one who was seated on the throne said, “See, I am making all things new.”
– Revelations 21:5.

Revelations 21 talks about God creating a new heaven and a new earth. Although the fullness of God’s new kingdom is yet to come, Jesus also taught that the kingdom of heaven is in our midst (Luke 17:21). How might Christ want us to make “all things new” here and now?

Prayer: Lord, sometimes it can be difficult to try new things. Help us to discern the path you desire for us, and give us the courage to follow you always.

Reflection 5: Just Shine

LetLightShine-green-web

Let your light shine, and when it does, you won’t need to tell anybody. Lighthouses don’t fire cannons to call attention to their shining — they just shine. – Unknown

It’s not bragging to let your light shine, it’s just doing what God has put you here for! How can you let your light shine today, knowing it is what God wants for you?

Prayer: Loving God, remind me when I forget that the things I am good at are gifts from you to be used for your good.
