December 11, Day Six of Week Two – The Way of Peace though Love

Mark 1: 35 – 38  Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.  Simon and his companions went to look for him, and when they found him, they exclaimed: “Everyone is looking for you!”  Jesus replied, “Let us go somewhere else—to the nearby villages—so I can preach there also. That is why I have come.”

Stay right here

Stay Right Here Song Link

 Intimate songs, sweet tender words
Flowing between heaven and earth
You whisper to me, I sing you a song
As you play the music, I’m carried along

I am in awe, I am in love
Breathing You in, I can’t get enough
Over and over You’re touching my heart
As I’m captivated by all that You are

REFRAIN: Can we stay right here in this holy place
Where You feel so near I can touch Your face
Can the time stand still, do I dare to ask
Can the world move on and this moment last
Can we stay right here, stay right here

Here in Your arms I am at rest
My silence conveys what my words can’t express
I am amazed at the wonder of You
To soak in Your presence is all I can do REFRAIN

Reflection:  Our days are filled with emails, meetings, jam packed commutes, kids’ activities, homework, taking care of household chores, paying bills, shoveling snow.  In this time of Advent, the busyness is compounded with Christmas preparations and activities.  We are divided into so many tiny compartments, like a tower of Jenga, trying to keep it all in place.  We are already sleep deprived.  There is no time for anything else, no time for a pause.  No room for God.  Bethlehem’s stable all over again.  The days of December will fly by us in a rush and we will find ourselves the day after Christmas feeling empty and spent.  Shepherds left their sheep, kings left their kingdoms to see the wonder of Jesus.  These days of Advent, this way of peace, is meant to gently pull us closer to God, to prepare our hearts for the miracle that is Jesus.  God’s peace waits for the taking.  Can we leave our sheep, our kingdom for a moment and lean into God?

Action:  Everyone was looking for him but Jesus took time to talk with God anyway.  He had questions only God could answer and knew he needed to breathe in the holy so he could live amongst the earth and its demands. Sound familiar?  The time we spend in prayer, speaking and listening to God, is like a good breakfast.  It feeds our soul as food feeds our bodies.  A fed soul can withstand the onslaught of our days.  A fed soul will help us pause before we speak, consider before we take action, walk away when it’s best.  Stop!  I don’t mean to yell but it’s hard to get through all the noise in your life.  Please, just stop.  Today, feed your soul.  Close your eyes.  Breathe in. Breathe out.  Repeat.  And again.  As many times as you need until you breathe softly.  In a soft whisper, “Hello, God.”  Breathe in the holy, breathe out the peace.

Dear God, Whisper to us, let us sing you a song. We get so caught up in our everydayness, that we forget you light the candle of our hearts.  Forgive our forgetfulness, our distance.  Thank you for never leaving us.  We know you are always close and it is us who drift away.  Tug on our hearts to bring us close again.  We long to know your peace, to fill our day with your presence, to stay right here in this holy place.  Staying right here, Amen.
