I Saw God Today! Paper Chain
This week encourage your family to pause and look for God in the ordinary.
Some places you might find God are:
- A beautiful sunrise
- An act of kindness
- Someone being joyful
- A song
Cut out strips of paper about 8 inches by 2 inches. Any kind of paper can be used – construction paper white paper, scrapbook paper, leftover wrapping paper, newspaper or paper bags. Cut a lot of strips, at least 20 per person in your family.
Each evening, share where you found God. Write each place on a strip of paper. For children who can’t write yet, encourage them to draw a small picture on the slip of paper. Glue or tape the ring together. Connect each ring to the next, making a paper chain of God sightings. Each night add to the chain. Connect them and keep them displayed – on the tree, framing a doorway, hanging in a window or anywhere else the whole family can see them.
On Saturday evening, look at the whole chain and talk about how they saw the world differently. Were they surprised at how many places they found God? What was the most surprising place? Ask if everyone wants to keep adding to the chain for the rest of Advent.
